An Elevator Traction Machine is the main driving unit of a traction elevator that moves the lift car up and down using steel ropes and a counterweight system. It converts electrical energy into mechanical motion to drive the elevator safely and efficiently.

The traction machine consists of an electric motor, traction sheave (pulley), brake system, and gearbox or gearless mechanism. The steel ropes pass over the traction sheave and connect the elevator car and counterweight, allowing smooth vertical movement inside the lift shaft.

How It Works

When the motor rotates the traction sheave, the steel ropes move along the pulley. This movement raises or lowers the elevator car while the counterweight balances the load, reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency.
